Airtel India threatens its Customers to Re-submit ID proof doc to avoid disconnection?
11Airtel asks its users to submit photo ID proof documents as per TRAI guidelines? Whats the real picture??
Airtel is one of India’s largest reputable telecom provider, but of late, nearly all of its customers are being bombed with SMS alerts and voice calls that they have 72 hours or so to submit their ID proof documents to the nearest Airtel outlet to avoid Disconnection. They claim that it is as per TRAI [Telecom Regulatory Authority of India] guidelines. Or is it??
A few calls to the Airtel Customer service on this regard, threw up the following answers.
1. Sir, your name and the name on the document we have DOES NOT match.
2. We DO NOT have the documents as per TRAI guidelines/standards.
3. Your registered name and number is NOT on our records.
4. Sir, I am sorry Sir, you are not in our records Sir, I am so sorry.
The above lines were real answers as quoted by “trained” customer representatives of Airtel. Does the 4th point even make any sense?? Lol…
Weren’t all new customers required to submit ID proofs and address proofs at the time of their SIM purchase? Only then would they get their SIM activated. Lets have a look at the big picture. There are two possibilities for this mishap.
1. Airtel has accidentally lost a majority of its customer records database and is using TRAI excuse to rebuild their records
2. Or is it that airtel has been doing business against TRAI recommendation and practices for the past 5 years or so! and is now making up to it??
Whatever be the case, some of its customer had submitted the documents twice already, still they claim to be incomplete. Further shocking is that, it is known to have accused customers who have been using the same number for more than 5 to 8 years that they have their documents incomplete or are completely NOT on thier records? Is that even possible? Was the user a ‘Ghost‘ until then..? Some one at TRAI needs to investigate.

Decent Laptops for less than $35
1India finally surpasses the “Affordable” range of laptops and tablet PCs, they come with 2GB RAM and video capabilities, running a Android OS. The best part, its $35 (INR 1500) and less!
kapil Sibal, Human resource development minister, finally unveils his dream project, a functional touch screen laptop that costs $35 and less! The project, jointly ventured by IIT [Indian Institute of Technology] and IIS [Indian Institute of Science] finally confirmed the launch of its portable tablet PCs that supposedly run are powered by a proprietary motherboard+processor combo and 2GB of RAM.
The Laptop looks kinda similar to the Apple I-pad, comes in three flavors 5/7/9” touch screens, has 3G capabilities, Wi-fi, ethernet and USB ports! It features a intuitive web browser, text processors and video conferencing facilities, however the a detailed spec is yet to be revealed. A perfect company for students and casual users alike, this laptop seems promising.
The Operating system is usually a critical cost deciding factor, considering which, they have settled to open source platform, the Android OS. The laptop is to go into commercial production and Mr.Sibal envisions to sell a million products by 2011, major focus being students and higher education scholars.
The best and worthy feature I like in this device is its PDF reader and video capabilities. Its definitely worth the money, as a standalone PDF reader like Amazon Kindle costs nearly 8 times the money and the I-pad, well less said the better!

Indian Rupee takes its final symbol from an IIT graduate’s design
0Few weeks ago, I blogged that there was this open invite to submit designs for a new symbol to be used to denote the Indian currency. Read that post first before continuing. There was even a price announcement of 2.5Lakh to whosoever’s design

The design supposedly belongs to an IIT post graduate, Mr.Uday Kumar.., who believes this symbol portrays India’s face into Global outreach. Newer currency that will go on printing from today will have this symbol on them, joining the ranks liks the USD $, Euros and the Yen.
